Charanjit Singh Channi sworn in as new Punjab Chief Minister


Charanjit Singh Channi on Monday took oath as 16th chief minister of Punjab along with two deputies, OP Soni and Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa. He was administered the oath by Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit at the Raj Bhawan in Chandigarh. The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

Rahul Gandhi took to Facebook to post pictures from Punjab CM Channi's oath-taking ceremony which took place on Monday morning.

He wrote in Hindi, "Attended the oath-taking ceremony of the new Chief Minister of Punjab Shri Charanjit Singh Channi ji. We are committed to the progress of the people and will remain so in the future. Congratulations to Punjab on this new beginning!"

Mr Channi, who is known to be close to Punjab Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu, succeeds Amarinder Singh who resigned on Saturday following a bitter power tussle in the party.
