India’s star shuttler PV Sindhu created history becoming the first Indian woman to win two Olympic medals, defeating world no.9 He Bing Jiao of China in the women's singles third-place play-off match in Tokyo. PV Sindhu defeated He Bingjiao 21-15, 21-13 in just 53 minutes in a crunch match on Sunday.

With this win, Sindhu became the first Indian female sportsperson to win two medals at Olympics and second Indian Olympian with two medals after wrestler Sushil Kumar. Sindhu is also only the 4th athlete to win multiple medals in the women's singles badminton category at the Olympic Games.

Sindhu had won the women’s singles badminton silver at the Rio Olympics, which was also her Games debut.
