Magnitude 5.2 Earthquake jolts Assam Tremors felt in Meghalaya

A moderate intensity earthquake measuring 5.2 on richter scale jolts Assam on Wednesday morning at 8.45 am with tremors being felt in neighbouring Meghalaya and northern parts of West Bengal, including Darjeeling and Cooch Behar besides Bangladesh.

The epicentre of the earthquake was Goalpara in Lower Assam. The earthquake struck at around 8:45 am at a depth of 14 km, a National Center for Seismology report said. The tremors prompted people to rush out of their homes. No loss of life or property have been reported so far.

Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) Deputy Directorm Sanjay O'neil Shaw said the place of occurrence was 71 km north of Tura in Meghalaya.
