The Tamil Nadu government on Monday allowed Vedanta's sealed Sterlite Copper plant in Thoothukudi to produce medical oxygen on Monday, citing the depletion of oxygen supplies as a result of the Covid-19 outbreak.
An all-party meeting in Chennai on Monday decided to allow the Sterlite Copper plant to operate for the production of medical oxygen. Officials said that a government-appointed council would oversee the plant's operation, and that copper production would be prohibited.
