India wins bronze medal in men’s hockey defeating Germany 5-4

The Indian men's hockey team beat Germany 5-4 at at Oi Hockey Stadium to clinch Bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics on Thursday. The India men's hockey team won its first Olympic medal since Moscow Games 1980.

Simranjeet Singh (17th, 34th minutes) scored a brace, while Hardik Singh (27th), Harmanpreet Singh (29th), and Rupinder Pal Singh converted a penalty stroke which gave India the lead.

Germany's goals were scored by Timur Oruz (2nd), Niklas Wellen (24th), Benedikt Furk (25th) and Lukas Windfeder (48th).

This is India's fourth bronze medal at the Olympics. They last won a bronze in the 1972 Munich Olympics. India are the most successful team at the Olympics in men's hockey with eight gold medals.
