Four municipal corporation workers died while working on a drainage system in Akkalkot of Maharashtra's Solapur district on Friday. Two workers died on the spot on Thursday, while the other two were taken to a hospital in critical condition. They passed away on Friday morning.
Locals blamed the incident on the Solapur Municipal Corporation's negligence. They claimed that the municipality did not provide the necessary safety equipment for workers engaged in drainage work. According to locals, the construction of a national highway in the area is also causing issues for workers.
The social organisations have strongly condemned the fateful incident and have urged the administration to take action against the contractors involved in the work.
