Former Union Minsiter Chidambaram arrested; RGV hails Modi
22 August, 2019
Congress senior leader and former union minister P Chidambaram was arrested by CBI sleuths from his Jor Bagh residence in New Delhi after much drama for his alleged role in two cases of alleged corruption and money laundering linked to INX Media.

CBI, which issued a lookout notice against Chidambaram, arrested him after he made a dramatic appearance at the Congress headquarters in Delhi and addressed a press conference. Chidambaram filed an anticipatory bail petition at the Delhi High Court on Tuesday, but was turned down by the court. On Wednesday, the former minister failed to get relief from the Supreme Court.

Speaking to reporters on his arrest, son Karti Chidambaram said, “First and foremost we are being targeted. There is no legal requirement for my father to be available to anybody…My father is a vehement, vocal and articulate critic of this government. The case has no legal basis, charges trumped-up.”

Ram Gopal Varma, who often talks about current affairs on social media, took to Twitter on Thursday to talk about Chidambaram's arrest.

"Chidambaram's arrest is a true demonstration of democracy.  What can be a bigger irony than the fact that he is in custody at CBI headquarters which he himself inaugurated when he was the Home Minister?  MODI’s INDIA is again and again proving that NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW," RGV tweeted out today.

Chidambaram, who spent the night in a CBI guest house, will be questioned in the alleged corruption in Rs 305 crore clearance given to INX media when he was the Union finance minister.
