Siddaramaiah meets Governor and submits resignation

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah met Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala at the latter's residence and submit his resignation after his party apparently lost to BJP in the crucial assembly elections in the southern state.took the appointment of the Governor to submit his resignation.

Addressing the media Siddaramaiah said, “Congress thanks the people for their verdict and we accept their mandate. Parties cannot, most often, win on its own. Sometimes we need to take support and help from fellow parties. So we have decided to join hands with JDS.

Our decision is that we will lend our support to JDS. We are yet to decide on the Chief Minister. The matter about who the governor or the chief minister will be done later. We have spoken to HD Devegowda and Kumaraswamy through a phone conversation. We are meeting them in the evening. We will give it to them in writing. Our numbers put together is more than BJP, so that is what has been decided “.

"Both Congress and JD (S) leadership will meet the Governor in the evening to stake claim to form the government and we will give letters of support," senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad had said while addressing the media.

Siddaramaiah, who had contested from two constituencies, won from the Badami Assembly seat in Bagalkot district but lost in Chamundeshwari in Mysuru.

Karnataka has a total of 224 assembly seats, but only 222 seats went to polls this election. A total of 112 seats are needed to form a government. BJP won 105 constituencies. The Congress-JD(S) alliance will make up a total of 113 seats.
